Providing hundreds of hours of wireless entertainment in the sky

Passengers onboard Etihad Airways can now easily stream movies, TV shows, music and more on their own devices. Our Tactel team designed the wireless web portal that makes it possible.

Today, almost all travelers bring a smartphone, tablet or laptop with them on flights. Leveraging on this trend, Etihad Airways decided to come up with a new inflight entertainment solution allowing passengers to utilize their own devices for a more personalized experience. This idea led to a wireless entertainment system for Etihad’s short-haul flights that our team was entrusted to design.

In May 2019, the first flights equipped with the new service dubbed E-BOX Stream took off. With E-BOX Stream, passengers have access to over 500 hours of entertainment. In addition, they can read digital magazines, follow the news, track the progress of the flight with the moving map and browse a catalog of goods offered inflight. These features make time fly for passengers while they’re on board.

A large and flexible platform

The design is developed to match a wide range of services, experiences and moods and to create the right balance of entertaining content and marketing opportunities. The solution also contains a large amount of editorial possibility. It is easy to highlight specific services, current offers or the latest quality film selection.

A comfortable and familiar setup

The new E-BOX wireless system is available on flights that last up to 5 hours. Every seat-back has an adjustable PED holder that fits all conceivable devices and formats, so passengers can sit back and relax with their favorite device, just like they do at home.

Founded in 2003, Etihad Airways is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. The company is part of the Etihad Aviation Group, headquartered in Abu Dhabi.
