A seat that changes how you fly, in all the right ways
MAYA, a partnership between Panasonic Avionics and Collins Aerospace, is a next-generation onboard suite concept that seamlessly blends the physical and digital world. It premiered at AIX 2024 in Hamburg to significant and ongoing praise. We are truly proud to be part of such a groundbreaking project.
We created a unified digital experience that showcases all the elements of MAYA, which features a cohesive integration of Panasonic Avionics’ ultra-wide curved screen, touchpad-like “Active Surface” controls, personal device charging and identification as well as crew-facing screens.
Ultrawide, without the overload
At 45-inch, the ultra-wide Panasonic OLED display is three times larger than the typical in-flight monitor, allowing us to design a great cinema-like experience.
At the same time, with all the available screen estate we had to make sure the user experience is not overwhelming. Our approach makes sure the center of the screen feels anchored and uncluttered for the user at all times. Users can discover additional contextual widgets near the edges of the screen, such as flight information through the Arc map, shopping, and other areas to explore.
Immerse yourself
Tactel also worked on the sound design, since a major part of the immersive factor is the use of smart in-seat speakers and seat haptics, creating an engaging headphone-less experience that does not disturb other passengers. Through the combination of sight and sound, we designed experiences to help the passenger sleep or relax.
Same-screen “second screen”
At home, you are probably used to using multiple devices at the same time. Scrolling on your phone while catching up on your show, sometimes referred to as “second screen”. Travelers are increasingly expecting the same experience onboard. On the ultrawide MAYA display, we designed that into the main screen alone.
